Comeragh Mountain Lamb wins Local Food Hero Award

Comeragh Mountain Lamb owned and run by William Drohan and Aidan Dunwoody of Kilrossanty won the Santa Rita/ LIFE Magazine Irish Restaurant – Local Food Hero Awards 2012 at the recent Awards Ceremony held in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin. It is the biggest and most prestigious food award event in the country and is organised by Sunday Independent and the Restaurants Association of Ireland. Since their inception, the Irish Restaurant Awards have cast a spotlight on quality, class and achievement in the food industry. The entries have doubled since last year with 6,000 nominations made for Ireland’s favourite restaurants, chefs, gastro pubs, hotel restaurants and local food heros totalling 23 categories in all.

William and Aidan are delighted with winning the award and would like to extend a huge thank you to all those who voted for them during the competition. They received huge support from the locality, the county and beyond. Also shortlisted for the coveted award were O’Flynn’s Gourmet Sausage Company, Gubbeen Smokehouse, Goatsbridge Trout, Keogh’s Model Bakery and Glenisk.

According to William receiving the award is great recognition for a local producer with a quality product. Aidan also believes that winning the award will enable the business to further develop into the future. Comeragh Mountain Lamb looks forward to supplying its unique product directly to consumers and to a wide variety of supermarkets, restaurants and hotels throughout Ireland.
